Women’s History Month Spotlight: Peggy Esparza

Let's celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring someone from our credit union who is and has been an inspiration to countless people for over 26 years. Peggy Esparza, our Chief Financial Officer, began working for Texas Trust as a Teller in 1995, when she was just 26 years old. It was easy to see from the beginning that Peggy had a great work ethic and a willingness to take on any challenge put in front of her. She would eventually climb the corporate ladder and find herself leading the finance department. When she was not at work leading her team, she was taking care of her two children and attending school. Wanting to expand her horizons, Peggy earned a degree in accounting and her MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington, all while playing a key role in further developing the credit union. Her most notable contributions involve implementing a new accounting system, customizing an advanced budget system, and modernizing the financial forecasting system.

In 2021, after she had been working at the credit union for 26 years, Jim Minge selected Peggy to be the CFO after the retirement of former CFO David Pickney. We asked Peggy what she wants to be remembered for the most. She says, “I want to be remembered as a woman with a servant’s heart, one who puts others' needs ahead of her own and invests in others. I’ve had great mentors and opportunities over the years, and my hope is to pay it forward.” Strong-willed and committed leaders like Peggy have helped expand Texas Trust from a small credit union with three locations to the sixth largest credit union in Texas, with 120,000 members statewide. It's the passion, determination, and hard work of individuals like Peggy that make this credit union, and this community one that we can truly be proud to call home.
