Our member Pam nearly lost thousands of dollars in a rental property scam.

Luckily, we were able to step in and keep her money safe from scammers. Pam visited our Hurst Harwood location to withdraw $2,000 from her account. She was then greeted and assisted by a sales service associate. While starting the withdrawal process, the associate began to chat with Pam about her day and her future plans, one of which included taking out that $2,000 and converting it into bitcoin to pay for a rental property. This sounded strange to the associate since she knew that typically rental properties were paid using a money order or cashier's check. She inquired further by asking Pam for more details about this rental property. After listening to what Pam had to say, the associate realized that this bitcoin transaction was a scam and Pam’s information had been compromised. She alerted Pam to this and educated her on ways she can protect her personal information and spot scams in the future. This Texas Trust employee saved Pam thousands of dollars and potentially more by simply asking how her day was going.
